Division of Nephrology, Saint-Luc Academic Hospital, Brussels, Belgium
The Saint-Luc Academic Hospital, located in Brussels, is the academic hospital of the Université catholique de Louvain (UCL) Medical School, the largest medical school in the French-speaking part of Belgium. The Division of Nephrology has a long tradition in cutting-edge research, clinical care and teaching. A special emphasis on inherited kidney disorders has been developed since more than 30 years (Prof. Y. Pirson, Prof. O. Devuyst). Since 2006, a Genetic Kidney Diseases Clinic, including four adult nephrologists, two pediatric nephrologists and one geneticist with training in nephrology, delivers integrated care to families with an inherited kidney disease.
More than 500 ADPKD families are currently followed up in Saint-Luc, from infancy until adulthood, from asymptomatic until end stage renal disease. The Division has been particularly involved in clinical research protocols on ADPKD, including intervention protocols and translational studies.
Profs. Olivier Devuyst (principal investigator) and Yves Pirson (co-investigator) are members of the steering committee which elaborated the EuroCYST initiative, in close contact with the ERA-EDTA. The EuroCYST team is completed by two other co-investigators, Drs. Nathalie Demoulin and Thien Anh Ho, and two study coordinators, Djamila Chaib-Eddour and Nicole Van Oost.
