Prof. Dr. Ron Gansevoort
The Groningen Expertise Centre for Polycystic Kidney Diseases is located in the University Medical Center Groningen, the Netherlands, and was founded in 2007. It is coordinated by prof. dr. Gansevoort and employs a staff of 2 post-docs (drs. Esther Meijer and Folkert Visser), and several physician investigators and research nurses. The Expertise Center serves as secondary as well as tertiary referral center for protocolized treatment of PKD for the north-eastern part of The Netherlands, and nationwide for management of invalidating, chronic PKD related pain.
The Expertise Center is involved with especially clinical research. As such prof. dr. Gansevoort is member of the Steering Committee of several large scale RCTs and observational studies in PKD (a.o. the DIPAK 1, TEMPO, OVERTURE, REPRISE and EuroCyst studies). There are strong cooperations with the laboratories of the Dept. of Pathology, UMC Groningen (prof. Harry van Goor), and the Dept. of Human Genetics, UMC, Leiden (prof. Dorien Peters) to perform translational experimental studies using ADPKD mice models. Nationally the Expertise Center is leading the clinical section of the DIPAK consortium (endorsed by the Dutch Kidney Foundation). International cooperation is achieved by membership in the Working Group on Inherited Kidney Diseases (WGIKD) and EuroCyst Consortium (both endorsed by the ERA EDTA).
